The Diagonal Element

I felt that the opportunity here depended on the diagonal form of the cut in the hillside. Lone trees are often good subjects for photography, and can be managed to evoke a variety of feelings, usually of quiet solace. But here, the brown blade-like formation adds energy and contributes to a zig-zag across the image. The cut does not cross the tree, perhaps suggesting that it was spared the woodman's axe.
