Fourth of July, 2013 ~ Cayucos
04-JUL-2013
The day starts at five in the morning for sand castle contestants. They create some very interesting and impressive structures, and these are not simple cup and bucket castles. Numerous and varied techiniques are used, and the results are often surprising. One castle had running water, and another had a ski lift. And dinosaurs.
The parade starts after the castles are judged. This parade draws a diverse assembly of participants. The usual cars, queens and cops show up, but they are mixed with unicycles, rock bands and Mona Lisa. The parade is both patriotic and comedic. Because so many parade photos are fairly similar in nature, the photographs that I made on this day are more specifically of the people in the parade. I did not pursue more general views of the event. Nevertheless, these closer views of the action reveal the good people and good fun of the event. It is, after all, the people who make it so enjoyable.
